The History of Connemara Country Lodge

Every wall holds a story, every stay becomes part of the next chapter.

Connemara Country Lodge has a rich and fascinating history that spans more than a century. Originally built in 1907, the grand country house was commissioned for a prominent Auckland doctor and first located in the leafy suburb of Epsom, one of Auckland’s most established residential areas.
Over the decades, the building has served many roles, reflecting the changing social fabric of its time. From a boarding house to a women’s refuge, a home for unmarried mothers, and later as a private boarding house, each chapter adding to its unique character and story.
In 2003, the house was carefully relocated to its current position on the Āwhitu Peninsula, an extraordinary feat that saw the building transported in five separate sections. Soon after, it was purchased by Gráinne and Kevin, who undertook a thoughtful restoration to preserve the home’s original features while reimagining it as a welcoming country lodge.
Today, Connemara Country Lodge stands restored to its former glory—offering heritage accommodation, stunning views, expansive decking, and quality boutique stays. Gráinne and Kevin continue to share their love for the property by creating a relaxed, home-away-from-home experience for guests celebrating special occasions or enjoying a peaceful countryside escape near Auckland.
